Dakkada Fc forward Israel Emmanuel is optimistic the Uyo-based side can beat the drop and remain in the Nigeria Professional Football League after their 2-0 win over Katsina United on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The forward scored the game’s first goal in the seventh minute after rising high to connect his head with Unwana Asuquo’s corner delivery, as the ball hit the inside of the bar and went in, before Asuquo doubled the lead in the second half to ensure a vital win for the hosts.
Reacting, Emmanuel expressed confidence in the team’s capacity to stay up.
“We have been fighting really well in our last few games and we are glad to get the win against Katsina United. This win will give us the confidence to continue to push. We were unlucky against Lobi Stars last week, but coming back home, we knew we had to win to keep our hope alive and that is exactly what we did.
“This game is gone. We have two important games coming up against Enyimba in Aba and Sunshine Stars here in Uyo. We must win both games to avoid relegation and that is the spirit we are taking into these matches.
“I have confidence in my teammates that we can indeed survive.”
The pacy forward who joined the Chosen Ones in mid-season, shaking off injury to make 11 appearances, scoring twice and assisting once, wants to score again as the league comes to an end after two match days.
“I am happy to help the team always but scoring gives me extra joy. I want to score again in our next two games. Both will be tough games but at this point, I have to give everything because this is when the team needs me most.”
Dakkada are 19th on the NPFL log with 43 points from 36 games and must take maximum points from their final two games to have any chance of remaining in the top flight.
