Nigerians celebrate South Africa WAFCON title win for this reason .
South Africa defeated hosts Morroco 2-1 in the final of the 2022 Womens Africa Cup of Nations tournament. The South Africans were joined in celebration by Nigerians who have not forgiven Morroco for the Incidents in the Super Falcons semi final loss.
In the Semi Final , a 1-1 scoreline after extra time was followed by a 5-4 penalty shootout victory for the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco over Nigeria’s Super Falcons . The Nigerian Ladies played a large chunk of the game with 9 players following Red cards to Halimatu Ayinde and Rashedat Ajibade .
Aside the red cards, Nigerians were angered by the use of Laser lights on Super Falcon players during the penalty shootout and so rooted for a South Africa win in the final .
South Africa triumphed in the final after Hildah Magaia scored a second half brace to better Rosella Ayane’s 81st minute strike .
South Africa were crowned Champions of the Women’s cup of Nations tournament thus succeeding Nine time Champions Nigeria to join the league of WAFCON winners.
Aside the Morroco Incident, Nigerians supported South Africa for the title because of their record of previously losing four WAFCON finals the most recent in 2018 to Nigeria . A believe that they deserved the title more than the Morrocan Atlas Lionesses playing in their first ever WAFCON Final.
Nigerians took to Social media platforms to celebrate with the Desire Ellis tutored Bayana Bayana after the final whistle on Saturday 23 July with the most repeated caption ” Congratulations South Africa for defeating Morroco for us “.
