Calvin Bassey sees Red 16 minutes into Ajax debut
Calvin Bassey made his debut for Alfred Schreuder tutored Ajax side vs PSV in the customary Dutch league season curtain-raiser on Saturday evening.
Bassey was introduced in the 62nd minute in place of Owen Wijndal with scores level at 2-2 . An eventful debut it was for the Nigerian Left back as PSV scored two goals in seven minutes to lead 2-4 .
Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus pulled one back for Ajax in the 72nd-minute for a 3-4 scoreline .
In the 78th minute, Bassey was adjudged to have lunged a clumsy tackle on Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari, catching the PSV substitute on the ankle with his studs up.
Bassey was showed a yellow card before a review via the pitch-side monitor led to an upgrading to a red card. The former Rangers man thus walked off just 16 minutes after coming on.
A sad start to his Ajax career for the Nigerian international who joined Ajax less than a month ago following a successful season at Glasgow Rangers of Scotland and only recently secured work permit to be eligible for his debut today.
PSV won the Johann Cruyff shield after a 3-5 win over Ajax.
