New 18,000 capacity Stadium almost ready in Akwa Ibom – Governor announces
The Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State , His Excellency Mr Udom Emmanuel has announced the 18,000 capacity Eket Sports Stadium project undertaken by his administration is almost ready .
The Governor made this announcement via his official Facebook page on Friday 5, August 2022 .
Mr Emmanuel wrote ” Our new 18,000 capacity sports stadium in Eket is almost ready. This project is so dear to me because I specifically promised our people a world class sports center to encourage more young people at the grassroots to take interest in sports and harness their talents. ”
” If our youths must match the skills, mental and physical strengths of their contemporaries in other parts of the world, then they shouldn’t be strangers to world class sports facilities. ” He concluded .
Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria’s land of promise is already a destination for major football events at the 35,000 capacity Godswill Akpabio International Stadium , Uyo .
The 35,000 sports complex nicknamed ” Nest of Champions ” recently hosted with distinction the CAF Confederation Cup Final game between RSB Berkane vs Orlando Pirates In March 2022 .
When completed , the 18,000 capacity Eket Sports Stadium will reduce the load on the Nest of Champions which currently serves as home ground for two NPFL teams , Akwa United and Dakkada Fc plus the use of the Practice pitch by Fc ONE Rockets and Sir Monty Fc .
The football pitch of the Eket Sports Stadium , Sportsration gathered is laid with artificial Astro turf plus well fitted tartan tracks for athletic events .
The new stadium situated in the heart of the city of Eket also has ultra modern , dressing room facilities plus all accompanying features of a sports facility.
No date has been given for the commissioning of the stadium but sources privy to happenings within the Akwa Ibom State Government confirm it will happen this year .
