Osimhen Napoli teammate Giovanni emotional after actualizing 13-year UCL dream
Victor Osimhen Napoli teammate Giovanni Simeone was emotional at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium on Wednesday after scoring a goal against Liverpool.
The Argentine on-loan from Hellas Verona scored from close range four minutes after coming on for injured Victor Osimhen as Napoli secured an easy 4-1 win against Liverpool in their Champions League opener.
Simeone who is the son of football legend and current Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has been around football and reportedly had a tattoo on his arm when he was 13-year-old.
The 27-year-old striker was said to have vowed to kiss the tattoo whenever he scores a goal in the champions league, that dream he achieved today.
“I was 13 when I got my first tattoo,” said Giovanni after the match.
“You’re supposed to be 18 but I loved the Champions League so much, I got the logo.
“My Dad was angry, my Mum wanted to know why. I said I would play in the competition one day & kiss it when I scored.”
His father, Diego Simeone whose team also scored a 103-minute winner against Sanusi Zaidu’s Porto also reacted to his son actualizing his dream.
“Giovanni Simeone’s goal? It makes me VERY HAPPY… he has worked hard for this.”
Giovani Simeone’s goal is his first in the Champions League in his first ever game.
