ASFAR FC 1-1 Remo Stars : Decent CAF Confederation Cup debut for Remo Stars
Remo Stars Sports Club had a decent continental debut in a 1-1 draw vs Morrocan club Association Sportive De Armeés Royale – ASFAR FC on Sunday night .
Coach Daniel Ogunmudede handed debuts to Edidiong Ezekiel , Aniekeme Okon , Adams Olamilekan , while Goalkeeper Kayode Bankole returned in goal for the Sky Blues in place of Vincent Edafe who held sway during the Pre-season games .
Remo Stars impressed in the opening minutes and could have taken the lead in the 6th minute , but Edidiong Ezekiel’s attempt missed the target by few inches .
Isah Ali also failed to bury from a goal mouth scramble as the Morrocan side struggled with the well executed set pieces of the youthful visitors .
In the 27th minute , D. Borges fired ASFAR FC in front , a lead they preserved into the changing rooms at the end of the first half .
With scores at 1-0 in favour of the hosts, Remo Stars emerged from the changing rooms charged up in search of an equalizing goal at the Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat Morroco .
In the 49th minute , the goal finally arrived for Nigeria’s Remo Stars . Adams Olamilekan headed home from a set piece to level the scores .
That was Remo Stars first continental goal and it was enough to secure a 1-1 draw against their more illustrious opponents.
The return leg is on Sunday September 18, 2022 at the Remo Stars Stadium , Ikenne Ogun State , advantage Remo Stars who will be boosted by the away goal as they attempt a shot at the second preliminary round in the 2022/2023 CAF Confederation Cup.
A good day it was for Nigeria’s representatives on the continent . Rivers United FC and Kwara United FC were 3-0 victors over Watanga FC and AS Douanes in their CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup games respectively .
