Ferdinand explains why Tomori’s red against Chelsea right decision

Rio Ferdinand has explained why it was the right decision for German referee Daniel Siebert to give Fikayo Tomori a red card in the Champions League group game at San Siro on Tuesday.

The AC Milan defender was given a straight red card for his foul against Chelsea’s Mason Mount in the 18th minute of the game.

It was a decision that didn’t go well with the Milan players on and off the field as Fikayo was sent off and Chelsea awarded a penalty.

The decision to send Fikayo Tomori off is generating an argument and the former Manchester United defender has clarified why the decision was a good call.

“As a young defender you question how Tomori allowed himself to get into that situation,” said Ferdinand on BT Sports.

“Mount’s movement was great and it’s a foul anywhere on the pitch. The rule is the rule, it’s a red card.”

Jorginho converted the penalty and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored the second goal to give Chelsea a two-goal lead going into halftime against 10-man Milan.
