Rohr says his ‘irrational sacking’ the reason Nigeria failed to qualify for Qatar 2022

Former Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr has blamed Nigeria’s failure to qualify for FIFA World Cup in Qatar on the decision made by the NFF to sack him.

The German tactician was sacked in December a few weeks before the AFCON finals for various reasons.

Amaju Pinnick-led board said the 69-year-old has lost the dressing room and can’t be trusted to take the team to the promise land.

But Rohr while speaking with Osasu Obayiuwana for “The Big Interview” show, said there was no reason for him to be sacked.

“Amaju Pinnick said I was sacked to avoid a disaster for the Super Eagles,” said Rohr to Osasu.

“But everybody can see that without me there was a disaster. These are facts.

Gernot Rohr also accused the Amaju Pinnick-led NFF of not understanding or checking the full contents of the contract he signed with them.

“There was no rationale for sacking me as they did, because if I had gone to AFCON, and not won it or if I had not qualified for the world cup, they could have ended my contract without paying me anything.”

“But they are paying up my contract in full now. I don’t think they studied my contract in full before taking their decision.”

Eguavoen was appointed as the interim coach, he led Nigeria to a disastrous outing at the 2021 AFCON – Super Eagles were eliminated by Tunisia in the round of 16.

Austine Eguavoen was still in charge as Nigeria lost the World cup ticket to Ghana.
