Ronaldo is a solution not a problem – Peseiro

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has described Cristiano Ronaldo as a solution and not a problem ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Portuguese superstar has been described as a problem by a few pundits including his former Manchester United teammates Gary Nevile.

In fact, Nevile suggested that his contract be terminated by Manchester United.

“I don’t think he was left with any other option [but to leave him out],” Neville told Sky Sports.

“That’s the second time Cristiano Ronaldo has left Old Trafford and got in his car before his team have got back into the changing room. I have to say, as someone in the dressing room, it’s something that’s unacceptable.

“When you look at whether Cristiano should be selected, Manchester United are better without him – and Erik ten Hag knows that.

The only thing that Cristiano and the club can do is get together in the next week and end the relationship.”

But Peseiro has only positive things to say about his countryman whom he said has been and will continue to be a solution for the A Seleção.

“Ronaldo will never be a problem for the national team, ever. He took Portugal to the top,” Peseiro told A Bola.

“Not only him, of course, but he’s not a problem. It’s a solution. He gave everything for Portugal, he fought for us.

“He has scored a lot of goals and, in the last 20 years, he has shown that Portugal is among the best teams in the world.

“At this moment, everyone respects us and thinks about the strength and quality of our team. With Ronaldo, it is always possible to win something.”

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to lead Portugal’s charge for the FIFA World Cup title in Qatar.

But before their first game in Qatar against Ghana on Thursday 24 November, Portugal will face Nigeria in a Friendly game on Thursday 17 November.
