Ademola Lookman’s 7th league goal not enough as Atalanta lose again

Three-game winless run

Ademola Lookman’s 7th league goal was not enough to rescue Atalanta from defeat to Inter Milan in a league game at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday.

Lookman has been in great form since joining Atalanta and he continued with another goal this weekend, albeit, in a five-goal thriller defeat to Inter Milan.

The 25-year-old forward who will be hoping to start for Nigeria against Portugal in the friendly game scored the first goal in his side’s 3-2 loss to Inter Milan.

Ademola Lookman scored from the spot kick to hand Atalanta the lead in the 25th minute, it was Duvan Zapata who won the penalty.

But inform Edin Dzeko pulled back for Inter Milan 11 minutes later – the Premier League and German Bundesliga winner stabbed in Lautaro Martinez’s headed flick from close range.

Edin Dzeko then gave Inter Milan the lead in the 56th minute after forcing in a cross from Federico Dimarco to complete his brace.

Atalanta defender Jose Luis Palomino scored an own goal in the 61st minute to increase Inter Milan’s lead to 3-1.

He mistakenly directed his head goalward in an attempt to prevent a corner from reaching Inter Milan players in the box.

The Argentine defender atoned for his mistakes by scoring Atalanta’s second goal to reduce the deficit to 1.

Jose Luis Palomino diving header was too strong for Andre Onana who tried to keep out the ball.

But in the end, it was Inter Milan who hung on to claim a remarkable 3-2 win against Atalanta.

Ademola Lookman was on the pitch the entire game but couldn’t stop Atalanta from their third straight Serie A defeat.

For Lookman, it is now 7 goals, and 2 assists in 15 Serie A games for Atalanta.

Atalanta have now lost all of their last three league games, dropping 9 points in the process, and now 7th on the log with 27 points.
