Akpeyi shines against Sundowns, keeps another clean sheet for Swallows
Daniel Akpeyi helped Moroka Swallows keep their survival in the South Africa Premier League on track after keeping another clean sheet in their game against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
The former Kaizers Chief goalie who was playing in his third game for Swallows ensured he kept his second clean sheet to deny league leaders, Sundowns an away win.
Mamelodi Sundowns were the better team on the day and despite enjoying the lion share of all the stats, they just couldn’t get past Daniel Akpeyi.
The Brazilians had a total of 23 goal attempts, 3 on target, 12 off target, and 8 were blocked as Swallows picked up a valuable point.
In three games played for Swallows since signing a contract after training with The Beautiful Birds, he has kept two clean sheets and only conceded just one goal.
Daniel Akpeyi had to prove himself to the Amaswaiswai with an unpaid 6-month training before he was signed.
He becomes the 4th Nigerian goalkeeper to have played for Swallows after the likes of Greg Etafia who is a part of their technical crew, and Ida Peterside, and Jasper Emaviwe.
