Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi slams Sokoto State Government for poor treatment of Sokoto United players
Super Eagles of Nigeria defender Shehu Abdullahi has slammed the Sokoto State Government over the poor treatment handed to protesting Sokoto United FC players.
According to the statement written in hausa language by the former Omonia defender on his verified Facebook page, Sokoto United FC players went to the Government House to protest over unpaid wages but were ill-treated by agents of the Government, an act he vehemently condemned.
” I am saddened by the situation our Sokoto United players found themselves when they went to state house today, ” the statement translated in English read.
” A group of players went to government house to protest over owed five months salary, surprisingly, the government used (area boys) to throw our players away and use bad words against them that are not good in our upbringing.
” This shows that the government of Sokoto has no place to bring development in sports and youths development in our state.
” In the end, we will not give up, we will continue to join all the youth affairs to see a lasting change. ” Shehu Abdullahi concluded.
A 37-cap Nigeria Super Eagles player, Shehu Abdullahi has spent time in his home state Sokoto recently following the termination of his contract with Bulgarian club Levski Sofia.
Sokoto United Football club plays in the Nigeria National league and is currently rocked with crisis over unpaid wages.
That has taken a toil on the clubs form in the current season as they have managed two points from the opening three games of the 2022/2023 season.
Shehu Abdullahi`s comments has attracted widespread criticism on the Sokoto State Government. This could eventually lead to action from the NNL board if the Government fails to address the players concerns.
