Investigation launched into death of fan at CAF Champions League venue
Casablanca authorities have opened investigation to the incident of fan death before Raja Casablanca’s CAF Champions League quarter-final match on Saturday April 29.
As first reported by Moroccan media outlets, a 29-year-old woman identified as Noura, died following a stampede as fans pushed for entry into the Stade Mohammed V.
Raja Casablanca were hosts to Al Ahly of Egypt and we’re targeting to overturn a 2-0 CAF Champions League deficit from the first leg in Egypt.
Despite the significant support by the home crowd, Raja could not find a way past Al Ahly as it finished 0-0 and 0-2 on aggregate in favour of the visitors.
In the end, Raja Casablanca were left to mourn the death of their fan plus exit from the CAF Champions League.
President of Al-Raja Club Athletic ,Aziz El Badrawy issued a statement after the match ” in his name and on behalf of all members of the club, extends his deepest condolences to the family of the fan, Noura, who passed away before our team’s match against Al-Ahly.”
Investigation has been launched into the unfortunate incident which could also attract the attention of Africa’s Football Governing body CAF.
