Newcastle 0-0 Leicester City: Ndidi, Iheanacho in trouble as Newcastle celebrate Champions League spot

Newcastle United and Leicester City played a 0-0 draw on Monday night to send Nigerian stars Ndidi and Iheanacho into further relegation trouble while the Magpies celebrated their secured Champions League spot.

Both teams took to the turf at St James Park desperate in search for points to advance their respective ambitions at different ends of the log.

For Newcastle United, it was a point to confirm their qualification for the 2023/2024 UEFA Champions League, while Dean Smith and the Foxes needed a win to climb out of the drop zone.

Dean Smith named fit-again Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho and compatriot Wilfred Ndidi in the starting XI for the penultimate fixture of the season.

Iheanacho lasted 49 minutes before being replaced by James Maddison while Ndidi was in action for 89 minutes.

The 0-0 draw was enough to spark celebration from the home crowd who will play in the continent again after over two-decades away.

A hard-fought point however means Leicester City must win vs West Ham on Sunday May 28 and hope even slip to retain their Premier League status.
