Chelsea have appointed former Tottenham Hotspur and PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino as their new manager, with the Argentine tactician replacing Frank Lampard at the club.
Following weeks of speculation and negotiations, Chelsea’s management has decided to proceed with Pochettino as their preferred choice to lead the team after a torrid season that saw them record their lowest-ever finish, lowest-ever points tally, lowest-ever goal tally and most defeats in their Premier League history.
Pochettino will inherit a bloated squad at Stamford Bridge, with around 40 players currently expected to resume for preseason when the Argentinean officially resumes on July 1st. He becomes the side’s third permanent manager in just over a season of their new ownership after Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter were both sacked in the nightmare 2022-23 season.
Pochettino was given a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge with an option for a third year. He replaces Frank Lampard, who had a horrible interim spell in charge of the side, winning only one and drawing one of 11 games as manager.
The former Tottenham manager is widely respected in England due to his work with Spurs and Southampton, and recently tasted success at PSG. He will be expected to revive the squad and help the club’s young stars to reach their potential, while also challenging for trophies.
Pochettino will be joined in England by his trusted assistants Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, and Toni Jimenez, and sports scientist son, Sebastiano Pochettino.
Mauricio Pochettino has begun working with Chelsea over the club’s transfer business this summer, identifying unwanted players and transfer targets to improve the squad.
