Federation Cup: Bayelsa Queens defeat Rivers Angels to be crowned Women’s champions

-Dedicate victory to deceased supporters club members

Bayelsa Queens have defeated Rivers Angels 4-2 on penalties to be crowned Tingo Nigeria Federation Cup women’s champions.

The final match was played at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, same venue the Prosperity ladies suffered a NWFL final loss to Delta Queens last weekend before suffering further tragedy as four supporters died in a fatal accident .

A goalless regulation time score in the Federation Cup final on Wednesday June 21 forced Referee Yemisi Akintoye to signal for penalty shoot-out to determine the champion.

Chiamaka Okuchukwu shot over the crossbar for the Angels while Agyaakwa Sofia had her spot kick saved by Bayelsa Queens goalkeeper, Onyinyechukwu Okeke to fall villians to Bayelsa Queens who had Glory Edet hit the woodwork with her effort.

Olapade Zainab stepped up to convert the fifth kick to seal a 4-2 win for Bayelsa Queens FC to the delight of the gallant support cast who braced the effects of last weekends tragedy to watch the game.

An emotional Commissioner of Sports in Bayelsa, Daniel Igali dedicated the victory to the members of the supporters club who died in auto crash in Kwale while coming to Asaba for the finals of the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six playoffs.

Bayelsa Queens have thus retained their Federation crown from the 2021 edition .
