2023 NBA Draft: Wembanyama joins Spurs, Nnaji selected by Pistons
Thompson twins make history, drafted top five
Victor Wembanyama emerged as the first pick of the 2023 NBA Draft and joined the San Antonio Spurs, who had won the Draft Lottery. The most talented draft pick since LeBron James in 2003, Wembanyama becomes the third player ever to emerge as first pick from the Spurs after Tim Duncan and David Robinson.
Brandon Miller emerged as the second pick and will join the Charlotte Hornets, while Scoot Henderson joins the Portland Trail Blazers as the third pick. Thompson twins, Amen and Ausar, became the first brothers to both be picked in the top five after they were selected back-to-back by the Houston Rockets and Detroit Pistons, respectively.
18-year-old Nigerian from Benue State James Nnaji was the second-youngest player in the draft and was drafted first in the second round (31st overall). The former Barcelona player was drafted by the Detroit Pistons but traded to the Boston Celtics and then the Charlotte Hornets. Nnaji was the only Nigerian in the draft.
