Nigeria-eligible Onyeka Gamero joins FC Barcelona B
Nigeria-eligible USA Youth international Onyeka Gamero has signed a deal with Spanish giants FC Barcelona Femeni’s B-team, joining from Santa Clarita Blue Heat in the USA.
Having featured for the USA’s U-17 and U-20 teams, the 17-year-old forward verbally committed to Stanford University last year but has now decided to take her football career to a professional club in Europe. She was offered a contract by French giants Olympique Lyonnais but declined it for a move to Spain.
Born in the USA to a Nigerian father, the teenager holds a Spanish passport. She featured for the USA in their quarterfinal match against Nigeria at the U-17 Women’s World Cup in October 2022, recording an assist as her team crashed out on penalties.
Gamero will team up with fellow Nigeria-eligible teenage star Vicky Lopez at FC Barcelona B and will hope to one day play alongside Super Falcons legend Asisat Oshoala for the first team.
