Cesc Fabregas retires from professional football to become coach
Legendary Spanish midfielder Cesc Fabregas has announced his retirement from professional football via his social media handles after 20 years of being a professional.
The 36-year-old ex-midfielder last played for Italian second division side Como, a side he also owns. Fabregas won the FIFA World Cup in 2010 and two European Championships in 2008 and 2012 with Spain.
He also won the Premier League twice with Chelsea, the FA Cup with Chelsea and Arsenal, and the English League Cup with Chelsea. He also won the UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, La Liga, Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup (2) with FC Barcelona.
Fabregas made his professional bow at Arsenal aged 16 and became a regular at the club under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger, becoming captain before leaving for Barcelona. He returned to Chelsea in 2014 and enjoyed a successful stint at the club before moving to AS Monaco in 2019. He moved to Como in 2021 and remained at the club until his retirement.
The midfielder made 110 appearances for Spain between 2006 and 2010, and made 849 appearances throughout his career, scoring 148 goals and making 253 assists. He won 17 trophies in his career.
Cesc Fabregas will now become the new head coach of Como B and U-19 Primavera teams, remaining with the Italian club as a coach.
