Port Harcourt defeats Uyo to win Arsenal Fans Nigeria football tournament
Arsenal FC fans club Port Harcourt defeated hosts Uyo to be crowned Champions of the maiden Arsenal Fans Nigeria football tournament.
The mini football tournament is part of activities for the 2023 Arsenal Fans Nigeria converge ongoing in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State capital.
In the football event all decided today (Saturday July 1) at the Uyo Township Stadium, Port Harcourt saw off hosts Uyo 3-0 on penalties to win the title.
Arsenal Fans Uyo had opened the tournament on Saturday morning with a 1-0 win over Lagos , Precious Noah with the late winner to send the hosts into the final.
Port Harcourt shoved aside Eket 2-0 in the second game to setup a final vs Uyo.
Before the grand finale, Lagos and Eket battled for the 3rd place prize. Eket scored in the first half but we’re pegged back by a bullet strike from a Lagos midfielder in the second half to force the game to penalties.
Eket triumphed 4-2 to emerge 3rd place.
Thereafter, Port Harcourt and Uyo took to the turf for the final match. A former Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council and staunch Arsenal Fan, Sir Charles Udoh performed the ceremonial kick-off before the keenly contested showdown.
At the expiration of regulation time, and with scores level 0-0, Referee Richard Alfred signalled for penalty shootouts to determine the winner of the 2023 Arsenal Fans Nigeria football tournament.
Arsenal Fans Uyo missed three consecutive kicks to hand perfect Port Harcourt a 3-0 victory and the title.
The 2023 Arsenal FC Nigeria fans converge is the first of it’s kind, bringing together supporters of the North London club in Nigeria to engage in a end of season fun packed experience in Uyo.
