Beyond Limits lose on penalties to BK Hacken, finish group phase in second place
Nigeria’s first-ever representative at the Gothia Cup in Sweden finished the group stage in second place after losing on penalties to Swedish side BK Hacken in their final group game following a goalless draw.
After recording wins against IK Sirius FK and Degerfors IF in their first two group games, the Nigerian club side were up against BK Hacken, a side that had also won their first two games in the group stage.
Neither side managed to find the back of the net despite their best efforts throughout the game, with Beyond Limits forward Muyideen Olude coming closest late in the second half with a fine finish, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
With the tie level after regulation time, the game was sent to a shootout to determine who went through on top of the group as both sides had 100% identical records.
BK Hacken managed to win the shootout despite missing a penalty, as the boys from Ikenne missed two penalties in the shootout, handing their opponents a 4-3 win. Both sides progressed to the knockout stages.
Beyond Limits will face another Swedish side, GIF Sundsvall, in their next game on Thursday hoping to progress to the next round.
