2023/2024 UEFA Champions League matchday one predictions

SportsRation correspondent Caretaker, presents 2023/2024 UEFA Champions League matchday one predictions. The matches will take place on September 19/20 2023.

This season is the 69th edition of Europe’s elite club competition, the 32nd since it was renamed the UEFA Champions League, and will run until June 1, 2024.

TUESDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER, 2023

AC Milan vs Newcastle (18:45): AC Milan will welcome Newcastle United FC to the San Siro on matchday one of this seasons UEFA Champions league.

The Rosonerri were semi-finalists last season but come into this game short in confidence after a 5-1 bashing by Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A.

Prediction: DRAW ( 2-2 )

Young Boys vs Leipzig (18:45) : Liepzig fly to Switzerland to face Young Boys. A game between two attack minded teams should produce two or more goals.

Prediction: Liepzig win (1-3).

Feyenoord vs Celtic (21:00): Not so much difference in terms of playing personal quality or pedigree here.

Tough call.

Prediction: Feyenord win or draw (1-1)

Lazio vs Atlético de Madrid (21:00): Mauricio Sarri’s Lazio welcome Atletico Madrid FC to Italy on matchday one.

As usual, Atletico Madrid will close things up at the back while not scoring too many as well.

Prediction: DRAW (0-0)

PSG  vs Dortmund (21:00): An entertaining game expected in Paris, especially after their weekend home loss vs OGC Nice.

Dortmund will be a good test but PSG are favourites to win.

Prediction: PSG win (3-1).

Man City vs Crvena zvezda (21:00): The Champions will look to start with their title defence with a win.

Anything apart from a City win in this game will be a big shock.

Prediction: Man City win (4-0)

Barcelona vs Antwerp (21:00): Xavi Hernandez tutored FC Barcelona have made a bright start to the domestic season and will hope for same fortune when Antwerp visit.

Prediction: Barcelona win (2-0)

Shakhtar Donetsk vs Porto (21:00): Two familiar foes in the UEFA Champions League.

Another close call but the Portuguese outfit have a slim edge.

Prediction: Porto win (0-1)

WEDNESDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER, 2023

Galatasaray vs Copenhagen (18:45): Galatasaray will welcome Danish club Copenhagen to Turkey on matchday one of this seasons UEFA Champions League.

I will not be surprised if this ends without a goal.

Prediction: DRAW (0-0)

Real Madrid vs Union Berlin (18:45): 14-time UEFA Champions League winners, Real Madrid welcome Union Berlin to the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday September 20.

Madrid have had some poor opening day results in the last decade. Maybe another surprise here.

Prediction: Real Madrid win or draw (2-2)

Bayern Munich vs Man United (21:00): United are not in their best moments ahead of the visit to the Allianz Arena.

Bayern Munich have not been very special as well and will not have manager Thomas Tuchel on the touchline as he serves a suspension from last season.

Prediction: DRAW (2-2)

Sevilla vs Lens (21:00): Two teams who have struggled for form in their respective leagues.

Lens have not won any game this season while Sevilla got their first win last weekend. Tough call.

Prediction: DRAW (0-0)

Arsenal vs PSV Eindhoven (21:00): Mikel Arterta’s Gunners return to the UEFA Champions League with a home tie vs PSV.

Prediction: Arsenal FC win (2-0)

Braga vs Napoli (21:00): Braga host Italian Serie A Champions, Napoli in Portugal.

Napoli have retained bulk of the player from last year’s quater-final run and will start as favourites.

Prediction: Napoli win (0-2)

Benfica vs Salzburg (21:00): Salzburg visit Portugal for the Benfica clash on matchday one.

A close call here.

Prediction: Salzburg win (0-1)

Real Sociedad vs Inter (21:00): Based on their current form, last seasons UEFA Champions League finalists Inter Milan will start as favourites vs Real Sociedad.

A very talented Sociedad squad will not be pushovers though.

Prediction: Inter Milan win (0-1)
