Chukwueze’s first AC Milan start adjudged satisfactory by Coach

Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze made his first AC Milan start in the UEFA Champions League in midweek. That performance was adjudged satisfactory by Coach Stephan Pioli.

AC Milan were held to a 0-0 draw by UEFA Champions League returnees, Newcastle United FC on matchday one of the 2023/2024 season.

Despite not doing enough to influence the scoreline in favour of the Rosonerri, AC Milan Head Coach, Stephan Pioli is satisfied with Samuel Chukwueze’s performance in the game.

“I want Samu to be very open, he was used to cutting a lot inside the pitch. The idea in Newcastle’s first half was to target a full-back with another pass, in the first half we didn’t make much use of him, then I put Pulisic on. But we’re satisfied of his performance,” Pioli was quoted by Football Italia.

Having joined the Rosonerri in the summer, 24-year-old Samuel Chukwueze is yet to record a goal or assist in five appearances across all competitions, four of this from the bench.

AC Milan’s next engagement is vs Hellas Verona in the Italian Serie A clash on Sunday. Pioli will make a decision whether to start the former Villarreal man or restore Christian Pulisic, who came on for the Nigerian on Tuesday.
