Niger Tornadoes stun Rivers United, Sporting Lagos hold Akwa United
Remo Stars began their NPFL24 campaign with a brilliant comeback win at home to Rangers International, claiming a 2-1 win to start the season.
Brimming with confidence following their opening day win, Rangers opened the scoring in Ikenne in stunning fashion. Kazeem Ogunleye struck a venomous shot from range after just eight minutes of the clash.
Remo Stars equalised in the 35th minute as right-wing back Sodiq Ismail played a delicious cross into the box, and left-wing back Seun Ogunribide popped up to tap home from close range. Experienced striker Sikiru Alimi scored a brilliant header following another wicked cross from Ismail to seal the win after 53 minutes.
Gombe United bounced back from their opening day defeat to Sporting Lagos with a 2-0 win over champions Enyimba at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe. Chijioke Alaekwe headed home from a corner on the stroke of half-time before Ahmed Jimoh scored a direct free-kick in the 90th minute to seal the win.
Plateau United picked up a hard-fought 1-0 win over Heartland at the New Jos Stadium in their NPFL24 Matchday Two encounter. Bernard Mundi scored a brilliant acrobatic goal in the 12th minute to secure maximum points for the Peace Boys.
Kwara United defeated Abia Warriors by the lone goal at the Kwara State Sports Complex thanks to a first-half goal from Isaiah Ejeh, with the Afonja Warriors claiming a first win of the campaign.
Niger Tornadoes struck early to stun Rivers United and pick up maximum points at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Bashir Usman’s seventh minute penalty was enough to hand the Ikon Allah Boys the win at home.
Lobi Stars claimed a 3-2 win over Sunshine Stars in their thrilling NPFL24 Matchday Two meeting to claim a first win of the season. Samuel Tiza scored a brace to give his side the lead in the second half before Rafiu Taiwo pulled one back for Sunshine Stars. Ajibola Adeleke headed home a third for the home side in the 85th minute before Michael Olalusi pulled one back for Sunshine Stars in added time to round off the scoring.
Sporting Lagos held Akwa United to a goalless draw in Uyo in their first-ever NPFL away match, keeping them atop the standings.
