Victor Boniface: Anything Can Happen In Football

Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface says his excellent start to life at German Bundesliga side, Bayer Leverkusen shows anything can happen in football.

The 22-year-old forward joined Leverkusen this summer from Belgian club, Royale Union Saint Gilloloise and has scored nine goals in 10 games across all competitions for Die Werkself.

In a recent interview, Boniface, who is currently in Faro, Portugal with the Super Eagles of Nigeria in preparation for International Friendly matches vs Saudi Arabia and Mozambique, said his club teammates have contributed to the team’s overall performance so far.

“It’s not down to me. Leverkusen signed six or seven players, and mine is to help the team and they’re doing the same. This is not just about me, it’s also for the team, “ Boniface is quoted by OmaSports.

“Coming to a top club like Leverkusen, playing for the first team, and helping the team has been good. For me it’s a surprise, but it’s football, anything can happen.”

Also, Boniface showered praise on Bayer Leverkusen’s Spanish manager, Xabi Alonso.

“He’s a great guy, great coach, and a great football player. The passion is there and he knows what he wants. Working with him makes me happy.”

Following his excellent performances, the striker won the Bundesliga Player of the Month and Rookie of Month in August and has been nominated for the awards again for September 2023.
