Three observations from Super Eagles squad for Lesotho and Zimbabwe games

On Thursday November 9, the NFF published a list of 23-players invited for games vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe. Here are three observations from the Super Eagles squad.

DESERVED MAIDEN CALL-UP FOR NATHAN TELLA

Just like we predicted days ago, Nathan Tella earned his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward was sensational for Burnley FC in the 2022/2023 season and has continued in fine form in Germany with nine appearances to his name.

Tella is named as a direct replacement for AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze who has been omitted from the squad to allow him more time to stabilize at his club after recently returning from Injury.

24-year old Nathan Tella was born in Lamberth, England but has since pledged International allegiance to his fatherland, Nigeria.

SADIQ UMAR PREFERED TO AKOR ADAMS

One of Nigeria’s hottest strikers at the moment is Akor Adams who has expressed his desire to represent the Super Eagles of Nigeria but has been overlooked.

On close obeservation, Adams is enjoying a better spell in front of goal to Sadiq Umar who is yet to score this season.

Adams who joined Montpellier in the summer has scored seven times already this season and was named in the French Ligue 1 team of the month of October 2023.

When compared with the other invited forwards, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface, Taiwo Awoniyi, Nathan Tella and Terem Moffi, Akor Adams deserved to be on the list ahead of Sadiq Umar.

The former Flying Eagle will hopefully get his opportunity next time as Jose Peseiro is comfortable trusting an already known Sadiq Umar for the games vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

THE BEGINNING OF THE END FOR AHMED MUSA’S INTERNATIONAL CAREER

Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa is again missing on the list of invited players.

Just maybe, the beginning of the end of Musa’s international career is upon us.

The Sivaspor of Turkey forward is not invited for a third consecutive International break.

Whereas the 31-year old was tipped to call-time on his Super Eagles career after the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, that is in doubt as Jose Peseiro is spoilt for choice in attack.
