‘Nigerians want to see us at the 2026 World Cup’ – Awaziem reveals motivation ahead of Lesotho and Zimbabwe games

Boavista defender Chidozie Awaziem says the fact that Nigerians want to see the Super Eagles at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is a motivation to start the qualification series with victory over Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

Awaziem joined twenty-two other Eagles for the teams first training session on Tuesday, November 14 after which he spoke with the media crew.

Nigerians are still hurting from the fact that the Eagles missed out on a place at the 2022 FIFA World Cup hosted by Qatar but Awaziem says they are working hard to qualify for the 2026 edition.

“It was a wonderful session today. We are all preparing for the first game in the qualifiers,” Awaziem told the Super Eagles media team.

“We all want to go to the World Cup, it’s our dream, Nigerians want to see us there and we are towards qualifying as well.

“We will work hard to get maximum points in these two games and then focus on the other games. All the boys are battle ready and focus on the the task ahead.”

Coach Jose Peseiro tutored Super Eagles will begin the qualfying series with a home game vs Lesotho on Thursday, November 16 before travelling to face Zimbabwe three days later.
