Peseiro denies applying for Zamalek job

Super Eagles of Nigeria head coach, Jose Peseiro has denied allegations he applied for the managerial job at Egyptian club Zamalek as widely reported.

On Monday, November 20, 2023, news emerged on several platforms that the Portuguese tactician applied to become coach Egyptian club, Zamelek.

That news coupled with the Super Eagles poor start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification series added further strain tp Peseiro’s relationship with Nigerians who blame him for the teams draws vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

In a chat with BTOLAT, Peseiro said that he has no contact with the club as he is completely focused on the Super Eagles job.

“At the present, all my focus is on the Nigerian national team only,” the Portuguese told btolat.com.

“There are no negotiations from Zamalek in any case and I am not thinking about anything else.”

That said, Peseiro is remains under pressure following the Super Eagles poor start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.

Many have questioned his suitability for the Eagles job ahead of the 2023 AFCON but as confirmed by NFF Executive Board Member Rt. Hon. Nse Essien, financial bottlenecks mean Nigeria cannot sack the Portuguese gaffer despite not being happy with him.
