Cash Rain: NFF receives 1.6B from FIFA and Sponsors
There is cash rain for the Nigeria Football Federation [ NFF ] to the tune of 1.6 Billion naira from FIFA and the federation sponsors like MTN. SportsRation reports.
This is according to INSIDEGLASSHOUSE which says that after some deductions, world football governing body, FIFA in November 2023 paid the NFF $1.2 Million (Over One Billion, two hundred million Naira) for the country’s performance at the Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand.
The said sum is for the NFF as the Super Falcons players had already been given their entitlements reaching the knockout rounds of the tournament.
Also mentioned in the report is comment by an official of the NFF on condition of anonymity, revealing that the football federation has received Four Hundred million (400 Million Naira) from sponsors and renewal of contract with telecommunications giants MTN.
The source is quoted to have said “The NFF have some financial cushion now from these payments and so they should be able to clear some of their debts as well as get on with some of their activities rather than keep waiting on the Government to do everything for them,”
“They got the money from FIFA last month [November, 2023] after the world football governing body deducted 32% from what was due to them for the Falcons advancing to the Round of 16.” The source concluded.
The cash rain will come as relief for the Ibrahim Gusau led NFF Executive committee, with the federation plunged in debts to coaches, staff while the Africa Cup Nations preparation will gulp part of the funds.
Nigeria will be part of the 24-nations at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast with the Eagles reportedly scheduled to participate in a three nations tourney in preparation for the AFCON.
As of the time of this report, no comment has been made by the NFF per receipt of the various quoted sums.
