Noni Madueke expressed his delight after scoring the winning goal for Chelsea in their 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace in Wednesday’s Premier League clash.
Madueke, who came off the bench, converted an 89th-minute penalty to secure the three points for the Blues.
In an interview with TribalFootball, Madueke acknowledged that it was a challenging game, giving credit to Crystal Palace for their performance.
He also praised Chelsea for their determination, stating that they deserved the win.
“It was a difficult game. Credit to Crystal Palace, they played some good stuff and were difficult to break down. But credit to us too, we deserved it,” Madueke said.
The winning goal came from a penalty kick that Madueke confidently converted. With usual penalty takers Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer not on the field, Madueke stepped up and successfully executed the spot-kick.
“It was a stonewall penalty. I scored one earlier in the cup, and I was confident with my technique [in the absence of usual penalty takers Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer],” he explained.
Expressing his desire to contribute to the team, Madueke emphasized the importance of making an impact when coming off the bench. He highlighted the satisfaction of being able to help the team secure the victory with his crucial goal.
“You want to play all the time. You want to be able to make an impact like I did today when you come off the bench,” Madueke added.
The 2-1 win against Crystal Palace marked Chelsea’s sixth Premier League home win in 2023 and propelled them back into the top half of the league table
