Super Eagles camp opens for 2023 AFCON in Abu Dhabi: Players arrive for training

The Super Eagles’ camp for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire has officially been opened with 17 players assembling in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Among the early arrivals are notable names like skipper Ahmed Musa, Alex Iwobi, and Victor Boniface.

In addition to the aforementioned players, Kenneth Omeruo, Moses Simon, Leke Ojo, Ola Aina, Semi Ajayi, Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman, Joe Aribo, and Frank Onyeka have also reported to camp. The list further includes Bruno Onyemaechi, Zaidu Sanusi, Chidozie Awaziem, Bright Osayi Samuel, and Raphael Onyedika.

As the squad gathers, the Super Eagles are scheduled to hold their first training session in the evening of Wednesday, January 3, 2024. The coaching staff, led by head coach Jose Peseiro, aims to ensure that the players are in optimal condition for the upcoming tournament.

While some players have already joined the camp, others, including key figures like Victor Osimhen and Samuel Chukwueze, are expected to arrive later today or early on Thursday.

Nigeria is placed in Group A alongside Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, and hosts Ivory Coast. Their first fixture is against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14, marking the beginning of their quest for continental glory.

The opening of the Super Eagles’ camp signals the commencement of intense preparations and training sessions as they gear up to compete against the best in African football.

Fans eagerly anticipate the team’s performance in the 2023 AFCON, hoping for a successful campaign under the guidance of Coach Peseiro.
