World number one Novak Djokovic saw his bid to win a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title go up in smoke after a four-set defeat to Jannik Sinner at the 2024 Australian Open. The Italian world number four, who had previously not dropped a set all tournament, emerged with a brilliant 6-1 6-2 6-7 6-3 win over Djokovic to reach the final.
Sinner became the third man in history after Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal to defeat Djokovic at Grand Slam, Davis Cup and ATP Finals level. He also became the first man to defeat Djokovic in an Australian Open semifinal.
Daniil Medvedev came back from the brink to send Alexander Zverev crashing out of the 2024 Australian Open. The world number three came from two sets down to claim a five-set win over the world number six. Medvedev claimed a 5-7 3-6 7-6 7-6 6-3 win to reach the final.
World number two Aryna Sabalenka defeated Coco Gauff in straight sets to reach the final in Melbourne. The Belarusian star claimed a 7-6 6-4 win over the world number four to reach a second successive final.
12th seed Zheng Qinwen reached her first-ever Grand Slam final when she beat Dayana Yastremska in straight sets in Melbourne. The Chinese star won the match 6-4 6-4 to advance to the final.
