Peseiro provides Stanley Nwabali injury update for Nigeria vs. Angola
Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro has provided an update on the availability of goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali for Nigeria’s quarterfinal clash against Angola in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nwabali, who has been a standout performer for Nigeria in the tournament, sustained injury in the quarter-finals against Cameroon.
Although the medical team initially reported that it was nothing serious, his fitness for the upcoming match against Angola is yet to be confirmed.
Coach Peseiro mentioned that they are still awaiting a scan before making a final decision on Nwabali’s availability.
The Chippa United shot-stopper’s participation in the quarterfinals will be determined after the late test.
Peseiro expressed confidence in the alternative goalkeeping options, Francis Uzoho and Olurunleke Ojo, in case Nwabali is not fit for the fixture.
“Today [Thursday], we will take a final decision, we are waiting for the last test, but if he is not fine, I have confidence in Francis Uzoho and Olurunleke Ojo,” the coach said.
