South Africa’s Ronwen Williams ready for Super Eagles challenge in AFCON semi-final
South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has expressed readiness for the upcoming semifinal clash against the Super Eagles in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Williams played a crucial role in South Africa’s quarterfinal victory over Cape Verde, saving four penalties during the penalty shootout.
After the goalless draw in regulation time, South Africa won 2-1 on penalties, securing their spot in the AFCON semifinals. Williams, who saved four crucial spot-kicks, declared the Bafana Bafana’s preparedness for the upcoming challenge against Nigeria.
Williams stated, “It’s special just to be part of the Africa Cup of Nations, seeing all these amazing African players playing in big teams in Europe, doing wonderful things, so we are just glad we can show our worth as well as South Africans. We know it’s going to be a big one coming up, so we need to prepare accordingly, and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
The AFCON semifinal between South Africa and Nigeria is scheduled to take place at the Stade de la Paix in Bouaké on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, by 6pm.
Both teams will vie for a spot in the final of the prestigious continental tournament.
