Nigeria begins 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualification journey with 6-0 spanking of Central African Republic
Nigeria U-17 Women’s national team spanked Central African Republic 6-0 in the first-leg of their second qualification round tie for the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Harmony Chidi and Shakirat Moshood each scored twice, while Prisca Nwachukwu and Edidiong Etim also found the net in an impressive display at the Stade Omnisport Duoala.
The Flamingos, who were bronze medalists at the 2022 edition of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India, took control early in the match, with Harmony Chidi opening the scoring in the fifth minute.
Despite the defensive display by Central African Republic, Nwachukwu Prisca extended the lead in the 38th minute. Moshood and Chidi added two more goals before halftime, giving Nigeria a comfortable 4-0 lead.
In the second half, Edidiong netted the fifth goal, with Shakirat Moshood completing the rout with a spectacular free-kick strike from 30 yards out.
The second leg is scheduled to take place in Abuja on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
With this commanding victory, the Flamingos have positioned themselves favorably for the third round of the qualifying campaign.
In the next round, Nigeria will face the winner of the match between Burkina Faso and Guinea.
Africa will have three representatives at the 2024 World Cup hosted in the Dominican Republic, scheduled to take place between October 16 and November 3.
