Super Falcons drop two places in latest FIFA women’s rankings

World football governing body, FIFA has unveiled the latest rankings for women’s football teams in 2024, with the Super Falcons of Nigeria experiencing a slight decline.

According to the recent rankings released by FIFA, the Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s team, dropped two places from their previous position.

Previously ranked 34th in December 2023, the Nigerian side now sits at the 36th position globally. Despite this drop, the Super Falcons maintain their status as the continent’s top-ranked team.

Accumulating 1615.94 points, the Super Falcons still hold a leading position in Africa, edging out South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, who are ranked 51st globally and second in Africa.

In the African top 10 rankings, Nigeria maintains its position at the summit, followed by South Africa in second place, Morocco in third, Ghana in fourth, and Zambia in fifth. Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Mali, and Equatorial Guinea complete the top 10 list.

While the Super Falcons may have experienced a slight dip in their global ranking, their continued dominance within Africa underscores their significance as a formidable force in women’s football.

Nigeria will next test its might against Africa’s second best, South Africa for a Paris Olympic games ticket.
