Federal Government commends Team Nigeria’s success at African Games in Ghana

The Federal Government has praised Team Nigeria for their exceptional performance at the recently concluded African Games in Ghana, where they secured an impressive second place on the medals table behind Egypt.

With a remarkable haul of 47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze medals, Nigerian athletes showcased their prowess and determination throughout the competition.

Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, conveyed President Bola Tinubu’s congratulatory message to the athletes, hailing their commendable achievements.

“Our sports-loving president and the vast majority of Nigerians warmly felicitate you for your gallantry and achievements in putting the country on the firm pedestal as a leading sports powerhouse on the continent of Africa,” Mr Enoh stated.

The competition, which saw 52 countries fiercely competing in 29 sports, highlighted Nigeria’s strong presence in 25 disciplines.

Looking ahead, the minister emphasized the importance of immediate preparations for the 14th African Games scheduled for Egypt in 2027 to build upon the success attained in Ghana.

“As your Sports Development Minister, dubbed Nigeria’s GamesMaster General, I sure will be with you all the way,” he assured.

Furthermore, the ministry reiterated its commitment to prioritizing the welfare of Nigerian sportsmen and women in alignment with international best practices, ensuring continued support for their endeavors.
