‘A bit like Haaland’ – Mikel Obi hails in-form striker
Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel has recommended in-form striker Viktor Gyökeres to Premier League clubs during the upcoming transfer window.
The Sporting Lisbon forward has been sensational this season, displaying remarkable prowess on the pitch. Gyökeres, a Swedish international, has made a significant impact with 17 appearances, netting 23 goals and providing 4 assists since the season kicked off.
His impressive performances have drawn the attention of numerous top European clubs, including several from the Premier League eager to secure his signature.
Mikel, who has been vocal about his thoughts on the squad, believes Gyökeres could elevate Chelsea’s striking options, especially in light of his earlier critiques of Nicolas Jackson.
On his Obi One Podcast, he stated, “Without a doubt. He is tailored for the Premier League. He possesses all the qualities needed: strength, speed, and, most importantly, a knack for scoring.” Highlighting Gyökeres’s standout performance, Mikel added, “He can find the net, and his scoring rate outmatches any striker in Europe right now—those numbers speak for themselves.
His display against Manchester City, where he scored three times, is a rare feat. He has been phenomenal and reminds me a bit of Haaland.” As Chelsea continues its pursuit of a reliable striker following a failed attempt to land Victor Osimhen last summer, Gyökeres emerges as a prime candidate to reinforce their attacking lineup. With his current form, the club could significantly enhance its quality and depth in the squad.
