Abia Warriors reach unwanted 10 as they lose to Akwa United

Imama Amapakabo’s Abia Warriors continued their dismal run of form as they lost their 10th consecutive NPFL match on Saturday against Akwa United at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.

Both teams came into the game on the back of losses in their Matchday Two fixtures, and they looked to change their fortunes as they faced off. It was the home side that drew first blood when former Abia Warriors forward Ndifreke Effiong scored in the 6th minute of the encounter. Abia Warriors pulled themselves level in the first half when Ibukun Harrison scored around the half hour mark. Akwa United got themselves in front for a second time in the 59th minute when Effiong scored from the penalty spot after Wisdom Fernando was felled by the Warriors keeper.

Effiong was unlucky to not get a hattrick as he struck the woodwork twice. Warriors came close to scoring a late equaliser when a shot from Fatai Abdullahi hit the frame of the goal in the 91st minute. The win was Akwa United’s first of the season.
