Italian giants, AC Milan, successfully defeated newly-promoted Serie A side, Benevento, for the first time at the 3rd attempt by two goals to nil thanks to goals from Ivorian midfielder, Franck Kessie, and Portuguese forward, Rafael Leao. It was a hard fought victory for the Rossoneri after Sandro Tonali picked up a red card in the 34th minute of the encounter. The victory lifted the Milan based side to the summit of the Italian Serie A, taking them to 37 points, one point ahead of 2nd placed Inter Milan.
AC Milan are the only undefeated team left in Europe’s Top 5 leagues, and have looked like a much improved side since the arrival of coach Stefano Pioli and one man, Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The 39 year old striker has missed the past 7 league games due to injury, but remains Milan’s top scorer in the Serie A this season with his 10 goals in just 6 matches firing them to the top of the table. Milan have not won the league since 2010, during Ibrahimovic’s first spell at the club.
AC Milan have been Serie A’s best side since the beginning of 2020 and have carried that form into 2021. For the first time in 9 years, there is a real chance that someone other than Juventus will lift the Scudetto at the end of the season. For now however, Milan must set their sights on the visit of champions Juventus to the San Siro on Wednesday in what would be a huge encounter.
