AC Milan thrashes Juventus, secures first win at Juventus in 10 years to boost UCL hopes

Juventus on brink of missing out on Champions League

AC Milan took a huge step towards achieving UEFA Champions League football next season and condemning Juventus to the second tier of European football with a deserved 3-0 win at the Allianz Stadium in Turin, home of Juventus. It was their first win away to Juventus since the 2010/11 season, ending a run of 9 consecutive defeats at the home ground of Juventus.

The visitors from Milan went in front thanks to a brilliant strike from Spanish youngster Brahim Diaz after Juventus keeper Wojciech Szczesny flapped at a deep free kick on the cusp of half-time. Franck Kessie missed the chance to put AC Milan two goals up when he missed a penalty just before the hour mark. Shortly after, Milan lost legendary forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic to an injury before his replacement, Ante Rebic scored an absolute rocket in the 78th minute to make it two nil to the visitors. Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori scored a bullet header, his first for the club to make it 3-0 only four minutes later as AC Milan closed out an impressive win.

The win puts AC Milan in prime position to reach the Champions League for the first time since the 2013/14 season, as they currently sit in third place with 72 points, three points clear of fifth placed Juventus who are heading to the Europa League as things stand.

Juventus still have to face champions-elect, Inter Milan in one of their final three games of the season as they desperately look to avoid dropping to the UEFA Europa League. Manager Andrea Pirlo has reiterated his desire to continue as manager and turn things around at the club in the aftermath of their defeat at the hands of AC Milan.
