Ademola Lookman acknowledges pressure of playing for Super Eagles
Ademola Lookman has acknowledged the pressure that comes with playing for the Super Eagles despite his recent standout performances at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Nigeria is currently competing in the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), where they are considered one of the favorites with a last-4 clash vs South Africa the next challenge.
In the tournament, Lookman has been in excellent form, scoring three goals in the last two games.
The 26-year-old winger, who is on loan at Atalanta from Leicester City, admitted that wearing the Nigerian jersey brings inherent pressure, but he takes pride in the responsibility of representing the country.
“I feel the pressure wearing this [Nigeria] shirt. Every single time I put on the jersey, that’s just what comes with being a Nigerian and playing for the country, so I’m proud to do that, to take that responsibility,” Lookman stated.
Nigeria, last crowned AFCON champions in 2013, aims to end an 11-year drought and secure continental glory for the fourth time.
Lookman and his teammates are determined to go all the way in the ongoing competition to satisfy the hunger for success among Nigerian football fans but first, South Africa awaits on Wednesday, Febuary 7, 2024 by 6pm.
