Ademola Lookman confident and ready for Nigeria vs Ghana
Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman has expressed the Super Eagles’ readiness to take on Ghana this Friday, aiming to showcase their quality once more following an impressive performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Having made his tournament debut at the 2023 AFCON, Lookman emerged as a key player for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, starting in nearly every game except one.
His contributions were significant, ending the competition as the team’s joint top scorer with three goals and providing an assist along the way.
Recognizing his stellar performances, Lookman was rightfully included in the CAF’s Team of the Tournament, alongside teammates William Troost-Ekong and Ola Aina.
Continuing his fine form at Atalanta, Lookman earned a call-up for the upcoming fixtures against Ghana and Mali, demonstrating his consistency on both the club and international stages.
In a statement on Wednesday, the former Everton player expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation for the upcoming match against the Black Stars, emphasising their focus on the task at hand.
Lookman said “Another good session from us. We are getting prepared for the game, obviously on Friday. So, we are looking forward to it.”
When asked about the team’s reflections on their AFCON journey, Lookman acknowledged the experiences gained but highlighted the unity and positivity within the group.
“Obviously, at AFCON, many things happen. We have still got the same set of group. We are still happy and together and obviously, some new faces as well in the squad. So, we are really happy to be back with the team.”
Lookman also shared his thoughts on what fans can expect from the Super Eagles in the upcoming clash with Ghana, stressing the team’s eagerness to demonstrate their capabilities once again.
“It is an opportunity for us to once again show the level we are at, the level we have shown at AFCON, the level that is expected of us. We are definitely looking forward to it,” he concluded.
Nigeria and Ghana lock-horns on March 22, before the Eagles face Mali days later in Marakech , Morocco.
