Ademola Lookman makes final shortlist for 2024 CAF awards
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the final nominees for its 2024 annual awards, celebrating the best in African football. The ceremony will take place on December 16th in Marrakech, Morocco.
While Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong didn’t make the final list, Ademola Lookman leads Nigeria’s representation thanks to his stellar performances for both the national team and Atalanta.
Lookman’s Outstanding Year
Between January and October 2024, Lookman scored three goals and provided an assist during Nigeria’s journey to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, where they faced hosts Côte d’Ivoire.
At the club level, he played a key role in Atalanta’s Europa League campaign, finishing with a sensational hat-trick in the final to secure victory against Bayer Leverkusen.
Final Nominees for Player of the Year
Joining Lookman on the shortlist are:
- Achraf Hakimi (Morocco)
- Serhou Guirassy (Guinea)
- Simon Adingra (Ivory Coast)
- Ronwen Williams (South Africa)
Other Awards Categories
CAF has also revealed nominees for six other categories, including:
- Goalkeeper of the Year
- Interclub Player of the Year
- Coach of the Year
- Young Player of the Year
- Club of the Year
- National Team of the Year
These awards recognise top performances in African club and national competitions during the review period.
How Winners Are Chosen
Winners will be decided by votes from CAF’s Technical and Development Committee, media representatives, and the head coaches and captains of national teams and clubs involved in CAF inter-club tournaments.
All eyes will be on Marrakech as Africa’s football stars gather to celebrate their achievements.
