Ademola Lookman named Atalanta ‘player of the season’ again
Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman has been crowned Atalanta B.C.’s Player of the Season for 2023/24, successfully defending his title from the previous year.
The announcement came after a fiercely competitive contest that required an overtime runoff and even extended to an Instagram profile showdown after the regular voting ended in a tie.
Lookman’s impressive performance throughout the season, with 17 goals and 11 key passes across all competitions, made him the team’s second-best scorer and assist provider. His hat-trick in the “magical Dublin final” was a decisive factor in his triumph.
“It’s him again, Ademola Lookman!” exclaimed the club in a statement on Thursday via its website.
Midfield stalwarts Éderson and Teun Koopmeiners completed the podium, securing second and third places respectively. Éderson, who played consistently across 52 matches and scored seven goals, put up a strong challenge. The club praised his consistency and perseverance throughout the season.
Koopmeiners, a regular on the ItalianOptic podium throughout the season, claimed the bronze medal. His 22-goal contribution (15 goals and 7 assists) across all competitions was significant, particularly his knack for scoring away from home, having “bagged 12 goals away from Bergamo.”
The club statement congratulated Lookman, stating, “Kudos to Mola for his back-to-back Player of the Season.”
