Ademola Lookman opens account as Fiorentina pip Atalanta
Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman scored his first goal of the season for Atalanta as they fell to a narrow 3-2 defeat against Fiorentina. The former Leicester City man scored his side’s second goal of the game in Florence.
After two wins and a defeat in the league before the international break, Atalanta made the trip to face Fiorentina away from home. They needed only 20 minutes to take the lead, Dutch midfielder Teun Koopmeiners firing home to hand them the advantage.
Atalanta’s lead was short-lived as the home side soon drew level through former AC Milan midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura in the 35th minute of the encounter.
With the half-time whistle nearing, Fiorentina turned the game on its head as Argentine centre-back Lucas Martinez Quarta scored his first goal of the season to put them ahead in the 45th minute.
Atalanta found themselves level eight minutes into the second half through Nigerian forward Lookman. The winger received the ball inside the box before placing a driven low shot into the bottom corner for his first goal of the season for Atalanta. The goal came on the back of one he scored for Nigeria during the international break.
The home side had the final say in the match, however, as Ivorian forward Christian Kouame scored the winner in the 76th minute to secure maximum points in front of their fans.
