Ademola Lookman scores as Atalanta seals thrilling 3-2 comeback win over Fiorentina
Ademola Lookman was the star of the match, delivering a stellar performance to help Atalanta come from behind and secure a 3-2 victory over Fiorentina in their Serie A clash.
The Nigerian international continued his fine form after returning from a successful AFCON qualifying campaign, where he scored two goals in the Super Eagles’ 3-0 win over Benin Republic.
Atalanta found themselves trailing in the 15th minute when Fiorentina’s Lucas Martinez Quarta pounced on a rebound to fire the ball into the net. However, Lookman sparked the comeback for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side, providing a superb assist for Mateo Retegui, who headed home the equaliser in the 21st minute.
Fiorentina regained the lead shortly after, with Robin Gosens delivering a cross that found Moise Kean, who slotted it into the net to make it 2-1. But Atalanta responded with back-to-back goals before the halftime break. Charles De Ketelaere scored the second goal for Atalanta with a clever header from Ederson’s free kick.
Lookman then completed the first-half turnaround with a brilliant individual effort, weaving past Fiorentina defenders before slotting a low shot into the bottom corner, giving Atalanta a 3-2 lead at halftime.
The second half was a much slower affair compared to the first, with both teams failing to add to the scoreline. Fiorentina pushed for an equaliser, but Atalanta’s defense held firm to secure all three points.
This win further highlights Lookman’s impressive form for both club and country, and his performance was crucial in Atalanta’s thrilling comeback against a determined Fiorentina side.
