AFCON 2021: Ghana, Senegal held to uninspiring draw as Morocco, Malawi win

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2021) continues with four games involving teams like Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Gambia, Malawi, and Comoros on Friday.

Teams in Group B and C played their second round fixtures at the Stade Kouekong and Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo respectively.

In Group B, the Teranga Lions of Senegal who are the number ranked African country struggled against Naby Keita led Guinea.

The Guineans who had the likes of Amadou Diawara and Ilaix Moriba in their team were by far the best team as the played a goalless draw against Senegal on Friday.

The draw means both countries have 4 points from their first two games.

In the other Group B game, Malawi came from a goal down to beat their South-African neighbours Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe scored first goal of the game through Ishmael Wadi.

But Gabadinho Mhango scored twice to secure a win for Malawi and a probable ticket to the next round as one of the best losers.

In Group C, Morocco made it two from two with a convincing 2-0 win against Comoros.

Selim Amallah and substitute Zakaria Aboukhlal scored the goals to hand Morocco a ticket into the next round.

In the other Group C game, Gabon scored a late leveler to deny Ghana their first win of the tournament.

Andrew Ayew scored a goal of the season contender to put Ghana up in the first half but substitute Jim Allevinah scored in the 88th minutes to hand Gabon a 1-1 draw.

Gabon played the game without their captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who was left out of the squad to face Ghana with suspected heart issues.

The Arsenal striker has recently recovered from Covid-19.

Morocco are through to the next round with their 6 points, Gabon are also sure of place in the next round while Ghana have it all to play for when they face Comoros in their last game.
