AFCON 2021: Nigeria likely next round opponents confirmed as Salah drags Egypt past Guinea-Bissau
Nigeria battered Sudan to book a place in the next round while Mohamed Salah carried Egypt past Guinea-Bissau as we mark one week since the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations started.
Nations in Group D were in action on Saturday in Cameroon as round two group games continued.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria outclased the Falcons of Jediane of Sudan at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua, Cameroon.
Led by Moses Simon, Eagles were super against the Falcons.
Samuel Chukwueze, Taiwo Awoniyi and Simon Moses scored all three goals in the 3-1 win.
Sudan got their goal from penalty after Ola Aina pulled and stamped on a player in the box.
The win confirmed Nigeria’s place atop the log as the head-to-head tie breaker means, Egypt even if they win and Nigeria lose their next game cannot overtake the Eagles.
Egypt stay on course for a place in the next round after securing a 1-0 win against Guinea-Bissau.
Liverpool legend Mohamed Salah scored the only goal in the second half.
They now play their Northern Africa rivals Sudan in their last group game, while Nigeria Western African brothers play Guinea-Bissau.
For topping group D, Nigeria have been rewarded with a clash against the 3rd placed team from Group B, E or F in the Round of 16.
