AFCON 2025: CBN Processing Super Eagles’ Allowances to Individual Banks – NFF
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is currently processing the allowances of the Super Eagles players and officials at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The update comes after reports emerged that the players had threatened to boycott their AFCON quarter-final match against Algeria due to unpaid bonuses.
A Nigerian journalist, Tobi Adepoju, said he spoke with a senior NFF official in Morocco, who assured him that the situation was being handled.
According to the official, the funds have already been processed from the CBN to the individual banks of the players and officials. He added that all bonuses would be paid once the banking process is completed.
Earlier on Wednesday, another journalist, Oluwashina Okeleji, reported that the Super Eagles players and coaching staff were yet to receive win bonuses from four matches at the tournament. These included victories against Tanzania, Tunisia, Uganda and Mozambique.
The report also claimed that the players would refuse to train or travel to Marrakech if the issue was not resolved.
Despite the situation, the Super Eagles have enjoyed an impressive campaign so far. They won all three of their group matches before recording a dominant 4-0 win over Mozambique in the Round of 16.
Nigeria are set to face Algeria in the quarter-finals on Saturday, January 10, 2026, in Marrakech, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
